Parental Rights After Miscarriage (as of October 2023): In Alabama, parents have the right to the release and burial of their child, and - if in a hospital setting - will sign an authorization for final disposition. (Please note: A report is mandatory if stillbirth occurs after 20 weeks of gestation.)

Star Legacy Foundation

Star Legacy Foundation provides online support groups for several different audiences.  There is no charge to attend however, preregistration is required for the first time attendee.  Our groups are held over web based, two-way interactive video conferencing that is encrypted and HIPAA compliant.  Your privacy is important to us.

Community Grief Support

If you are struggling with an emotional stew and feel life is out of control, we can help! Our grief support groups provide a safe haven for understanding and healing as you share with other grievers in a supportive and confidential environment.

The Compassionate Friends

If you are a member (or a friend) of a family that has suffered the death of a child, The Compassionate Friends is here to help you and provide support for the family. The TEARS Foundation

As of December 2017, The Alabama Chapter of The TEARS Foundation has assisted many families with funeral services, hosted memorial gatherings remembering Alabama babies, and held its inaugural Alabama Rock & Walk gathering the community and bereaved families to walk and raise funds together in honor of their child to help future families.

Hospice of the Valley's Community Bereavement Center

Hospice of the Valley's Community Bereavement Center exists to offer practical support for those grieving the loss of a loved one. As a hospice benefit, the Center provides ongoing bereavement support. As a community goodwill service, we offer educational resources, short term grief counseling sessions, and ongoing support groups to anyone in need. We offer peer support groups for children, adolescents, and adults. Bereavement support is also available for schools, businesses, churches, and other organizations struggling with unexpected or traumatic loss.
