Parental Rights After Miscarriage (as of October 2023): In Rhode Island, parents have the right to the release and burial of their child. (Please note: A report is mandatory if stillbirth occurs after 20 weeks of gestation.)

Women & Infants

When you are experiencing a change in your life with pregnancy or have added stress due to illness, there is nothing more beneficial than meeting other women who are dealing with similar issues. Women & Infants offers a variety of support groups for bereavement, cancer patients, new or expectant parents, and general health to meet the many needs of our community and our patients. For more information on any of the support groups, call the number with the description listed below.

State of Rhode Island Department of Health

When a loved one dies, the recovery process is slow and emotionally painful. To assist families and loved ones in the grieving process, the Office of State Medical Examiners has identified the following local bereavement organizations. Additional resources may be found at funeral homes, community centers, family service agencies, community hospitals, and through private counselors.

Hawthorn Grief Care

I offer support and accompaniment before, during, and/or after miscarriage, stillbirth and infant loss. I hold as much of the logistics of life as you can let go of while also providing support specific to grief and loss. What everyone needs during this time is different; We will decide together what I can offer you based on what you need help with and what you think would make this time a little bit easier. Below is a short list of possibilities:

  • Providing local resources

  • Meal preparation, grocery shopping, and errands

  • Accompaniment to medical appointments, etc.

  • Listening and peer support

  • Creating momentos

  • Making a support plan and communicating with friends and family about needed support
